Finding the Right Martial Arts Mats – We’re Happy to Help
We offer a wide selection of martial arts mats for your gym or private training space. Equip your home gym with high-quality mats from trusted manufacturers. We recommend puzzle mats with interlocking edges. This system connects multiple mats into one seamless surface. Thanks to the secure interlocking design, you can quickly assemble a large training area and start your session in no time. The mats can be used with training shoes or barefoot without any issues.
Which Martial Arts Mats Are Right for You?
If you practice stand-up combat sports such as boxing, kickboxing, or Muay Thai, you’ll need mats with a thickness of approximately 2 cm. The cushioning should be firmer to prevent excessive sinking while moving.
If you’re looking for mats for ground fighting disciplines like BJJ or wrestling, you should choose mats with a thickness of around 4 cm. These provide greater shock absorption for throws and breakfall training.
How Do I Cut and Adjust Martial Arts Mats?
Most martial arts mats can be easily cut using a standard utility knife from a hardware store.
Many mats come with edge strips that create a straight outer border. We recommend cutting the mat together with the edge strip to maintain a clean finish.
The mats must be placed on a level surface. They do not compensate for uneven flooring.
Cut the mats while they are warm. If you cut them while cold, temperature expansion in summer may cause dents or warping. It’s best to leave a small gap between the mats and the wall.
What Else Should You Know?
Martial arts mats react to temperature changes. Don’t be surprised if the surface area appears larger in summer than in winter. This difference is especially noticeable with large training areas.
Puzzle mats should never be bent or folded.
Clean the mats with standard cleaning products. For best results, always check the manufacturer’s care instructions.
Shoes with heels or sharp objects are not suitable for use on the mats, as they can damage the surface.
